3 days in Venice: a day-by-day itinerary

This is a travel book Tripodigo made for a sample traveller. Yours is made from your answers: your dates, your pace, what you like.

A slow, romantic three days in Venice built around your tenth anniversary, with plenty of unhurried time between a handful of carefully chosen art stops, quiet walks, and Venetian food moments. Everything steers clear of the big queues, and the second evening is kept entirely free for the canal-side dinner you asked for.

Every address below was checked on Google Maps.

Good to know before you go to Venice

Venice has no cars or scooters: you walk, and take the vaporetto for longer distances and the islands. The city has six districts (sestieri): San Marco, the busiest; Dorsoduro, with its museums and sunny quays; Cannaregio, the liveliest in the evening; Castello, quieter towards the Arsenale. Murano and Burano take half a day each.

Frequently asked questions about Venice

Do you have to pay to enter Venice?

Day-trippers pay an access fee on certain spring and summer days, in place since 2024 (€5, or €10 when booked less than four days ahead, in 2025). Visitors staying overnight in the city are exempt but must still register. Check the calendar on the city's official website.

How do you get around Venice?

On foot for almost everything, with the vaporetto for the Grand Canal, the Lido and the islands. A one- to seven-day travel pass quickly costs less than single tickets.

What is acqua alta, and when does it happen?

High tides that flood the low parts of the city, mostly from October to January. Since 2020, the MOSE mobile barriers protect the lagoon from the strongest ones; St Mark's Square, very low, can still get wet.

How many days should you spend in Venice?

Three days let you see San Marco early in the morning, before the day-trippers, then spend time in the quiet districts and on an island. A single day is mostly crowds.
